Scene 1

Michael Baldwin joins Victoria Newman in the break room at the Newman Enterprises. “Michael…,” Victoria says nervously as she awaits his announcement. “The preliminary report from the Guardian Ad Litem has come in,” Michael warns. Victoria gulps. “And…,” she begins, “What does it say?” “I’ve gotta warn you, Victoria…,” Michael says, “it’s not good…”

Scene 2

Meanwhile, at the Main House on the Newman Ranch, Victor Newman and his significant other, Nikki Newman, are discussing the custody situation. “I can’t believe this is still going on,” Nikki comments, a disgusted look on her face, “I keep hoping that JT will come to his senses and end this.” “You don’t think Victoria is going to lose, do you?” Victor inquires. “No, of course not!” Nikki assures him, “I believe 100% in my daughter’s abilities as a mother, and I still have faith that the judge will too.”

There is silence for a moment. “Well, if I get the sense it‘s not going well, I’ll intervene,” Victor reveals cryptically. “What’s that supposed to mean?” Nikki probes. “That’s all you need to know,” Victor states, “I’ll take care of things.” “Victor…,” Nikki pries again. “Look, sweetheart, I’m not gonna sit by and let Victoria lose her son,” Victor claims, “No matter what the cost. And the cost will be high…”

Scene 3

In the Newman break room, Michael begins to read Roseanne Ryerson’s custody recommendations to Victoria:

“…Mr. and Mrs. Newman painted their daughter as a reasonable, responsible woman and a caring and nurturing mother,” Michael reads, “Maybe initially, when she first came out of her coma… But more recently, Victoria Newman’s actions have shown that she is a careless, reckless woman who makes irrational decisions without thinking of the consequences, especially the negative effects on her young son, Reed Hellstrom.” Victoria scoffs. “That’s ridiculous,” she defends herself, “Roseanne’s had it in for me since day one, and I’ve never been able to figure out why.”

Michael quiets her. “There’s more,” he says before continuing to read, “Victoria Newman left her young son in a police station when she had to deal with a family crisis that involved a sibling being arrested for murder. Later, I witnessed her being confrontational and threatening a friend of the family. The latter incident occurred in the presence of her own son. Furthermore, the former incident demonstrated how members of the Newman family, including Ms. Victoria Newman, have been known to lie and cover for one another in times of adversity. As a result, Mr. and Mrs. Newman’s testimony cannot be fully trusted.

The greatest role of a parent is to guide that child into being a productive member of society by being a good role model, and Victoria Newman’s actions as of late seriously undermine her ability to do just that.

While the child’s father, Jeffrey Todd Hellstrom, is not without faults, it is my strong recommendation to the court that full custody and placement of Reed Hellstrom be granted to Jeffrey Todd Hellstrom, until which point that Ms. Victoria Newman can demonstrate that her son Reed is a priority in her life and that her actions will not have an adverse effect on his growth and development…”

“The last part is key,” Michael tells Victoria, a glimmer of hope in his voice, “At the hearing, we have to demonstrate that you are all of the things Roseanne said you are not.” Victoria isn’t hearing a word he’s saying. She has tears streaming down her face. “I’ve gotta get out of here!” she announces and she tears out of the room. “Wait!” Michael calls after her. “Victoria! Victoria!” But she keeps going…

Scene 4

Meanwhile, at JT Hellstrom’s Apartment, attorney Alex Perez has just finished reading Roseanne’s recommendation to JT and his girlfriend Mackenzie Browning. “Wow, that spells it out pretty clear right there,” JT remarks after Alex finishes reading him Roseanne’s recommendation. Mackenzie steps forward. “Can Victoria do anything to refute this?” she questions.

Alex considers the question. “Well… both parties have the right to call the guardian as a witness and challenge basis of her opinions,” she explains, “However, I’ve known judges to get frustrated by anyone who challenges the recommendations. In reality, it’s extremely difficult to get a judge to not adopt the evaluator’s recommendations.” JT breathes a sigh of relief.

“Because they’re unbiased?” JT clarifies. “Because they’re deemed to be an independent, unbiased witness, yes,” Alex nods, “Ms. Ryerson has no personal stake in the outcome. Victoria does.” “Yeah, well, knowing, Victoria, she is gonna be fuming,” JT states, “And Victor, he’ll be even worse. He is gonna be out for blood like never before…”

Scene 5

Back at the Main House on the Newman Ranch, Nikki reacts to Victor’s previous statement that helping Victoria win back custody of her son would have a high cost. “What does that mean, the cost will be high?” Nikki questions, a concerned tone to her voice. Victor avoids eye contact. “When the time comes, you’ll have to decide what you’re gonna do,” he replies mysteriously, “You’ll have to take sides. I might lose Victoria, but she won’t lose her son…” “My God, none of this makes any sense,” Nikki comments. “I don’t want you to worry about that right now, okay?” Victor dismisses her concerns.

Scene 6

“Surely you knew that Victor and Victoria weren’t gonna go down without a fight,” Alex tells JT. JT nods. “I know,” he says, “I just didn’t think it would be this hard. All this legal stuff, it’s taken a toll on me and I know how much it’s affecting Reed.” Mackenzie puts her arms around him.

“Let me leave you with one final thought,” Alex says as she’s on her way out, “It’s always best if parents can make child custody decisions between themselves. No other person, no matter how well-trained or qualified, can determine all of the subtle details about a child's needs. I don’t care how experienced they are… it just doesn’t happen.” JT nods again.

Scene 7

After Alex has left JT’s Apartment, Mackenzie stays behind to comfort him. “Are you having a change of heart?” she questions. “This has gotten uglier than I wanted,” JT admits, avoiding a straight answer, “I’ve been thinking a lot lately about the past year. You know, it’s been over a year since we lost Colleen…” “I know how hard that was on you,” Mackenzie interjects. “Yeah, and I guess… I guess, I’m just reminding myself of what’s important,” JT continues, “And I want Reed to have a good life. And that means a relationship with both of his parents.” “So you are changing your mind?” Mackenzie deduces. JT shakes his head. “I’m not changing my mind, but I’m gonna talk to Victoria,” he clarifies, “And see if we can maybe come to any compromises. I’m keeping an open mind. That’s it. I just want to see where her head’s at.”

Scene 8

Victoria storms inside of Billy Abbott’s trailer, slamming the door. “Woah, what’s got your panties in a bunch?” Billy asks at the sight of his secret wife. Victoria breaks down in tears. Billy holds her as she cries into his shoulder. “Roseanne’s recommending JT get full custody,” she sobs, “I’m gonna lose my son again.” “You don’t know that,” Billy assures her. “Get yourself together! You gotta think positive.” “I am trying!” Victoria insists.

“This probably isn’t the right time to tell you this,” Billy prefaces his announcement. “Tell me what?” Victoria inquires. “It seems my nephew, Kyle, knows about us,” Billy reveals, “He saw us hugging at the Coffee House. He overheard us.” “What!?” Victoria reacts, “This is the last thing I need right now. Kyle’s not gonna tell anyone, is he? You told him he has to keep quiet, right?” “Well, yeah, but whether he listens or not is a different story,” Billy admits. “Make him listen!” Victoria orders, “This is my son’s future we’re talking about.”

“The only future Kyle cares about is his own, and right now it doesn’t look too bright. He’s pissed off, like fuming at me, because I busted his party and got him in trouble,” Billy tells Victoria, “He threatened to expose us.” “This is all your fault! “ Victoria accuses him. “My fault?” Billy laughs, “It takes two to tango, honey. We both said ‘I do.’ Remember that.” Victoria plops herself down on the couch.

“She wants to take my son. I won’t let her…,” she says about Roseanne. “Look, maybe we’ve been going about this the wrong way,” Billy suggests, trying to turn a negative moment into a positive moment, “Maybe, if the court knows that we’re married, they’ll see that we can provide a more stable life for Reed.” “In a trailer?” Victoria questions, “Because God knows my father would never allow you to live on the Ranch.”

“You’re right,” Billy agrees, “So we’ll move. We’ll get our own place.” “No, no, no,” Victoria shuts him down, “I can’t deal with this right now.” “What? Are you afraid to tell people that we’re married?” Billy inquires. “We’re not even officially together,” Victoria replies. “Then why did you come running to me right now?” Billy demands, “You could have gone to your parents, Nick… I mean, I just think you need to think about this and decide what you want.” “I want you to stop pressuring me,” Victoria shouts, “I’m serious: can’t deal with any of this right now, on top of everything else!”

Victoria continues to pout: “Uh. I wish Reed and I could just go away somewhere together. Anywhere but Genoa City,” she admits, “Somewhere far away...” “Now, don’t get any crazy ideas,” Billy warns her, “Just stay here. I’ll take care of you.” “I’m going crazy!” Victoria continues, “I think, maybe I just need to lie down.” “Here,” Billy says as he grabs a pillow for Victoria to lay down on. “My head is killing me too!” Victoria states. “Why don’t you take a sleeping pill?” Billy suggests

Scene 9

As Victoria falls asleep on the couch, the trailer begins to rattle. Suddenly, a big storm has come on – it’s a twister. Billy’s trailer begins to fly through the air. The noise awakens Victoria. She sits up and notices that Billy is gone, but somehow, Reed Hellstrom is there.

“Reed, how did you get here?” Victoria asks excitedly. She runs over and hugs her son. “It doesn’t matter,” she continues, “Because now that you’re here, I’m not gonna let that mean lady take you away from me…”

The trailer begins to shake more fiercely. Victoria looks out the window and sees spirals of wind. “We must be up in the cyclone,” she realizes. Suddenly, Roseanne Ryerson, the Guardian Ad Litem, rides by on a bicycle. “It’s Ms. Ryerson,” Victoria gasps. She covers Reed’s eyes, “Don’t look. She must be looking for us.” And then Roseanne transforms into a witch, and continues flying by on a broomstick. She cackles.

Then, without warning, the trailer lands with a thud in the middle of a fantastical city. As Victoria and Reed emerge from the trailer, Victoria is now magically dressed in blue suspenders, her hair in pigtails, just like Dorothy from The Wizard of Oz. “Reed, I’ve a feeling we’re not in Genoa City anymore,” Victoria states the obvious…

Scene 10

Meanwhile, back in her fantasy, Victoria and Reed glance around at what looks like Munchkin Land from The Wizard of Oz. “I must be dreaming…,” Victoria comments aloud, “What kind of sleeping pill did Billy give me?”

Suddenly, a magical orb comes hovering through the air. Victoria watches it approach her, unsure of what to do. The orb lands beside her and transforms into a beautiful, middle-aged, red-headed woman. “Phyllis?” Victoria realizes. She’s taken aback. “That’s right,” Phyllis says, a big smirk on her face, “Betcha didn’t expect me to be the good witch…”

Before Victoria can answer, a huge cloud of red smoke agrees. And a green-skinned woman appears. It’s Mackenzie, dressed as the Wicked Witch of the West. Mackenzie looks over at Billy’s trailer and there are two legs hanging out from underneath it.

“You killed her,” she sneers at Victoria. “Who?” Victoria asks. “Roseanne,” Mackenzie answers, “You dropped your trailer on her.” “I… I didn’t mean to,” Victoria stutters, “It was an accident.” “You did it on purpose,” Mackenzie accuses Victoria, “You didn’t want her to help me get custody of Reed. You didn’t want me to take your place. Well, I’ve got news for you, my dear: I’ll get you, my pretty, and your little son too.” She cackles and then disappears in another cloud of red smoke…

Scene 11

Back at his trailer, Billy covers a sleeping Victoria up with a blanket… “Sleep tight,” he whispers and he kisses her on her cheek.

Billy picks up his cell phone and dials a number. “Nick—” he begins. “What do you want?” Nick cuts him off. “Listen, I know I’m the last person you want to hear from,” Billy assures him, “but Victoria… I’m really worried about her. She isn’t doing well because of the whole custody thing with JT, and I think it just really hit her hard today.” “And what would she be doing coming to you about that, Abbott?” Nick questions. “Don’t worry about that,” Billy retorts, “Just come to my trailer… please…” Nick sighs. “You better be legit.” He hangs up on Billy.

Scene 12

Meanwhile, back in Victoria’s fantasy, she, Reed, and Phyllis are in the town square of Munchkin Land. “What am I supposed to do now?” a worried Victoria asks Phyllis. “There’s only one thing you can do: follow the Yellow Brick Road to Emerald City.” “Emerald City?” Victoria questions, “I don’t want Emerald City. I want to go back to Genoa City.” “And I want my husband to forget all about his ex, but sometimes we don’t get what we want, do we?” Phyllis answers. “Right…,” Victoria says softly, unsure of how to respond.

“Um, aren’t I supposed to get ruby slippers?” Victoria inquires, “Can’t I just click my heels together and say ‘There’s no Place Like Home?’ and this’ll all be over with?” Phyllis smiles. “If only it were that easy,” she says, “That’s not how your story ends… But you can control how it ends… if you go to see the Great and Powerful Wizard.”

Scene 13

Nick calls his parents, Victor and Nikki, at the Main House on the Ranch. “Mom, put me on speaker,” Nick orders immediately, “Victoria needs us…” “What’s wrong?” Nikki asks, “Is it the custody case?” “What else?” Nick replies sarcastically. “We’ll be right over,” Victor states. “No, she’s not at her place,” Nick informs them, “She’s at Billy’s trailer.” “What? Why?” Nikki reacts. “I don’t know,” Nick admits, “I guess we’ll find out when we get there.”

Victor and Nikki rush to the front door, open it, and JT is walking up the front steps. “What are you doing here?” Victor asks angrily. “I’m looking for Victoria,” JT states, “Is she here?” “No, she’s not,” Nikki answers. “Where is she? Is she at Newman?” JT questions. “That’s none of your concern,” Victor brushes him off, “Come on.” He says to Nikki before issuing a warning to JT, “I suggest you get off the property before I call security.” He and Nikki run off, leaving JT on the doorstep. “Forget this! What the hell am I doing here anyway?” JT shouts aloud.

Scene 14

Victoria and Reed reach a fork in the Yellow Brick Road. Victoria pauses, unsure of where to go next. “Uh, you wanna help me down from here, sis?” a voice asks. Victoria glances around, confused. “Who said that?” she demands. She turns around and sees a scarecrow in the field. “Oh you’ve gotta be kidding me…,” Victoria remarks, realizing that the scarecrow is her brother, “Nick?” “That’s Scarecrow Nick to you,” Nick comments. Victoria helps him down from his post.

“Can’t we just skip all that stuff and go straight to the Wizard, or at least to the part where I get to melt Mac?” “You tell me. It’s your dream,” Nick informs his sister. “That’s right,” Victoria realizes, “It is my dream. Phyllis was trying to tell me what to do, but I’m in control of my own fate here. And quite frankly, I will do anything to get custody of my son, but I don’t have time for this.” “So what are you gonna do?” Nick inquires.

“Well, I need to meet the Tinman and the Lion,” Victoria realizes. Magically, the Tinman and the Lion appear beside Scarecrow Nick. Victoria is taken aback. “JT?” she says, realizing that the silver metal man standing in front of her is her ex-husband, JT. “Well, this one makes some sense,” Victoria comments, “Because the way you’ve been trying to take my son from me shows me that you don’t have a heart.”

Victoria turns to the Lion, who is her current (secret) husband, Billy. “And you… well, I don’t know what to say about you,” Victoria says with a laugh. “Come on – me, cowardly? No way,” Billy says, “But I guess, I am the king of your jungle. So I’ll take it…”

Suddenly, Victoria, Reed, Nick, JT, and Billy are all mysteriously teleported to Emerald City. “There, that’s more like it,” Victoria comments, “Now let’s find the Wizard and get out of here before Mackenzie finds us.”

Scene 15

Victor, Nikki, and Nick are driving frantically to Billy’s trailer. Another car trails them in order to find out where they’re going. It’s JT.

“Victoria, where are you?” JT asks aloud, “What have you gotten yourself into this time?”

Scene 16

Victoria, now joined by Reed, Nick, JT, and Billy, knock on the door to the Wizard’s Palace in Emerald City. A man sticks his face out of the door to see who’s there. It’s Michael, dressed fully in green. “Of course,” Victoria smirks. “No one gets in to see the Wizard,” Michael informs them. He slams the door.

“What? Please, sir,” Victoria pleads, shouting through the door, “We’ve come such a long way. And if I don’t see the Wizard, I won’t be able to get home and protect my son from that wicked witch Mackenzie who wants to steal him away from me and take my place as his mother.” Victoria starts to cry.

Michael opens the door again and his face is also covered in tears. “Don’t cry,” he tells Victoria, “I’ll do whatever I can to help you keep your son… I’m gonna get you in to see the Wizard!” “Oh, thank you!” Victoria shouts, her face lighting up! She and the others head inside.

Scene 17

Inside the Emerald City Palace, Victoria, Reed, Nick, JT, and Billy hesitantly approach the Wizard, a giant green head that looks just like Victor. “Who goes there?” the Wizard’s head calls out, “Come forward and identify yourself!” Victoria trembles. “Are you telling me you don’t recognize your own daughter?” she asks, “Dad…? It’s me, Victoria.”

“Silence!” the Wizard booms, “I am the Great and Powerful Victor Newman! You got that?” “Please, Daddy,” Victoria cries, “I need your help. I can’t let Mackenzie take Reed from me.” “The Great Victor Newman has every intention of honoring your request,” he announces. As he is saying that, Reed goes over to a curtain at the side of the room and pulls it open to reveal Victor, in human-form.

“Daddy?” Victoria gasps. “Yes, sweetheart,” Victor says, “Let’s get you back home to the Ranch where you and Reed will be safe.”

Suddenly, a cloud of red smoke appears and Mackenzie the Wicked Witch appears. “There you are, Reed! Come to your new mommy!” she orders. Reed hides behind Victoria.

“Quick! Get in the balloon!” Victor shouts to Victoria and Reed. A hot air balloon magically appears and Victoria and Reed make a run for it, but Mackenzie blocks their way. The balloon starts to float away without Victoria and Reed. “No!” Victoria calls out, realizing that it’s no use.

“Stand back,” Victoria orders as Mackenzie tapers towards her and Reed, “I’m warning you. Stand back.” Victoria picks up a bucket of water and throws it on Mackenzie to keep her at bay. “I’m melting!” Mackenzie shrieks, “I’m melting! My world… I’m melt…ing… melting…” As Victoria and the others peer down at the pile of goo and smoke left on the floor, loud voices can be heard in the distance and Victoria begins to wake up…

Scene 18

Victor, Nikki, and Nick have just rushed into Billy’s trailer. Victoria is sleeping on the couch and Billy is sitting beside her. Suddenly, JT bursts into the trailer behind them. Everyone turns. “What the hell are you doing here?” Victor demands. “What’s Victoria doing here?” JT counters. “That’s what we’re here to find out,” Nick says.

“Victoria, wake up!” JT calls out. He reaches down and shakes her. “Woah, man, back off!” Billy orders and he stands between JT and Victoria. The noise and movement causes Victoria to stir. Nikki rushes to Victoria’s side. “Oh, honey, are you okay?” she asks. “Mom, what are you all doing here?” Victoria says, still groggy. “We were worried about you, sweetheart,” Nikki answers. Victoria rubs her eyes. “I had the strangest dream,” she admits, as she starts to point to everyone in the room, “And you were there, and you, and you…” She turns to JT, “…and even you… ” “It was only a dream. Everything’s gonna be okay…,” Nikki comforts her daughter.

Scene 19

Alex is sitting at a desk in her Athletic Club Suite, preparing for the custody hearing the next day. Suddenly, the phone rings. She answers: “Hello.” It’s the Athletic Club’s receptionist, but what she says cannot be heard. “Put him through,” Alex replies, and when another speaker is transferred, she introduces herself. “Alex Perez,” she says. The other speaker cannot be heard, but it’s clear why he’s calling.

“Why, yes, that would affect the case significantly if Victoria were secretly married to someone,” Alex informs the caller as she quickly grabs a scrap piece of paper to take notes on. “To Billy Abbott?” Alex reacts to the caller’s news, “You’re sure about this?... He’s your uncle?... Why are you telling me this?... Well, I’ll check into it right away. Thank you very much, Kyle. You’ve just made my night.” And with that, Billy and Victoria’s fears were realized. Kyle Abbott exposed their secret marriage to the woman who could use that information to keep Reed away from Victoria…

Scene 20

Across the hall, Roseanne is in her suite, also preparing for the hearing. “Court tomorrow,” she says to her doll, “You better get your act together… Phyllis is gonna be there. But don’t let that get you off your game. You still have a job to do. You have to protect that sweet, innocent little child… the way that Phyllis wasn’t there to protect you.”

Next Time on The Young and The Restless

The custody hearing begins. Who will be granted custody of Reed: Victoria or JT.

The story continues Monday, December 20th.
